Is there anything new under the sun?
I bet you have heard this quote before…or a quote based on this one.
“There is no such thing as a new idea. It is impossible. We simply take a lot of old ideas and put them into a sort of mental kaleidoscope. We give them a turn and they make new and curious combinations. We keep on turning and making new combinations indefinitely; but they are the same old pieces of colored glass that have been in use through all the ages.” – Mark Twain
Artist use all types of sources for inspiration. Pinterest is a source that many artist browse to spark their own creativity.
Don’t feel bad. You are probably familiar with Rodin’s Thinker? This is from ArtCyclopedia. “A trip to Italy in 1875 further opened Rodin’s eyes to the achievement of the past: Michelangelo, Donatello and Ghilberti. “Michelangelo saved me from academicism,” he later noted.
So if you are thinking you might have seen something familiar about my bulletin boards….Think Starry Night by VanGogh. Think Pinterest. Think Oriental Trade Co. Think Sparkle. I use them all as Mark Twain said and put my own spin on them. Viola!
